Belize

I have really gotten into a habit of posting adventures welllllllll after they happened, but I do eventually get around to posting them. Way back in March 2022 my friend Maura agreed to go to Belize with me for my spring break, and we booked tickets just a couple short weeks beforehand.

Two things stand out from that trip. One was river tubing through a cave on the mainland.

The other was snorkeling with green turtles off Caye Caulker (where we spent most of our time). I mean, we snorkeled with a lot of sea creatures, but I remember the green turtles the most. This video makes me laugh because the snorkeling guide captured me JUST as a fellow snorkeler kicked me in the head. Ha.

Oh! And we saw a manatee! Not well, and I didn’t get a photo, but we did see one. And seahorses, which are some of the coolest animals out there. And we swam a bit with stingrays (creepy – I kept thinking about Steve Irwin and kept my distance).

It was also interesting to hear English (the official language) mixed with creole (which I found completely incomprehensible) and a little bit of Spanish, and to watch locals switch between all 3 depending on who they were talking to.

Belize was country 35…!
