This might not be particularly adventurous, but it is at least culturally interesting. I was recently invited to give some presentations at a conference for English teacher in Salatiga, a town about 90 minutes from my city. Salatiga is a cute town in the foothills (which means it’s cooler!), they put me in a gorgeous 4-star resort, and the conference was great.
I won’t bore my adoring public with conference details, but I will mention that Satya Wacana is a fairly prestigious university and one of only a few Christian schools in Indonesia. Consequently it draws Christian students from all over the archipelago.
A special treat for me at the conference was “culture night” in which groups of students from different regions of the country performed traditional dances special to their various ethnic groups. It was a great sampling of a variety of Indonesian culture. I was struggling with the indoor lighting but managed to get some low-quality video clips of some dances. You can view once dance here and another dance here.
